Thank you so much Rob and Anna and Good luck from all at SHAW.
CALEDONIAN CANAL 20th-26th September 2018
Row across Scotland from Ardgour to Inverness and back on the Caledonian Canal.
Rob and Anna Johnstone in a 14ft boat rowing 140 miles in 6 days. The row is along the Caledonian Canal and takes in 4 Lochs including Loch Ness.
A big challenge but also a means of raising funds for two local charities South Hams Area Wellbeing (SHAW) and Kingsbridge and Saltstone Caring thus enabling Salcombe Estuary Rowing Club (SERC) to give back to its local community.
SHAW attended its first Kingsbridge show in September with the plan being to increase peoples awareness of our aims and philosophy and gain valuable feedback from the public on how SHAW could work for their community.
It was great to meet so many people who had already heard of us and also to introduce the concept to new people.
A survey was available to complete to help further the understanding of what SHAW can do for you – https: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/XPJWVP.
Those that filled in the survey were put into a prize draw for a delicious hamper of goodies. The winner was Janet.
We are very pleased to announce Monty Halls as our Patron for SHAW.
Monty Halls is a broadcaster, speaker, naturalist, former Royal Marine, marine biologist, travel writer and leadership specialist. His experience covers over two decades of leading teams in some of the most remote environments on earth, presenting wildlife and adventure documentaries, and working with blue chip companies both in the UK and overseas.
“When I first heard about SHAW and social prescribing it seemed like such a sensible thing to me: I am a strong believer in the benefits of exercise for physical and mental well-being and gladly support SHAW in reaching out into the local community to enable people to get more exercise and also be more active participants in community activities. I can see how the NHS would eventually benefit from such a pro-active approach to health and well-being.”
Sarah met with us at our first launch night , wonderfully supported by The Crabshell Inn.
She reported in her recent newsletter “I met with Dr James Mottram and his team for the launch of their social prescribing project for the Kingsbridge community, the South Hams Area Wellbeing. These projects can make a really positive difference to people’s lives especially in reducing loneliness and helping people to connect with all that is going on in and around our communities”.
